1. Walter Anderson Museum of Art

The Walter Anderson Museum of Art is a museum that was established to showcase the amazing work of Walter Inglis Anderson, Peter Anderson, and James McConnell Anderson. These three men are brothers as well as incredible artists. Locals and visitors enjoy walking through this museum and admiring the art created by these talented men.

2. Mississippi Sandhill Crane National Wildlife Refuge

The Mississippi Sandhill Crane National Wildlife Refuge is located in Gautier, Mississippi, which is less than 15 miles from Ocean Springs. Individuals who visit the Mississippi Sandhill Crane National Refuge will see over 110 Sandhill Crane birds, which are very tall, large birds with long necks and legs. Wet pine savanna can also be found by visitors, which is a type of wet soil that is on the verge of becoming extinct. During the fall months, individuals may be able to catch the sights of the beautiful changing of the leaves.

3. Fontainebleau Nature Trail

The Fontainebleau Nature Trail is located on the Mississippi Sandhill Crane National Wildlife Refuge. Individuals who like to be active and get involved with nature will find this place to be very enjoyable. Hiking, biking, walking, and birdwatching are a few of the things that visitors take part in while on the trail. The Fontainebleau Nature Trail is considered to be an easy trail for everyone to walk or hike, no matter how much experience they have. It stretches across 1.6 miles of land and features a charming river for viewing. During the autumn months, the trail is a lovely place to take pictures. Dogs are also allowed if they are kept on a leash.

4. Shearway Pottery

Shearway Pottery is a fun place that opened nearly a century ago. The work of Peter Anderson, the artist, is also featured at this shop. Visitors are always amused by the wonderful, handcrafted pottery pieces that line the shelves against the walls. Each piece is unique and made of clay from various states, such as Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, and more. Shearway Pottery is an excellent small shop located in the downtown area. It welcomes anyone who would like to take the time to admire the pottery artwork.

6. Ocean Springs Museum of History

The mission of the Ocean Springs Museum of History is to collect, preserve, research, and exhibit artifacts and objects that give a historical perspective to the City of Ocean Springs.  The Museum also seeks to educate and enlighten the public about the value of understanding and preserving local heritage.

7. Ohr-O’Keefe Museum

The Ohr-O’Keefe Museum is a gallery that is dedicated to George Ohr, who was an artist and commonly referred to as the “Mad Potter of Biloxi.” He was a native of Biloxi, Mississippi and spent most of his time creating art from ceramics and clay in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. This collection is incredible and worth seeing while visiting the area. In addition to the artwork, there is a café and free Wi-Fi on site.

8. The Biloxi Tour Train

The Biloxi Tour Train is another great idea for visitors. Passengers can board the train in Biloxi, which is less than five miles from Ocean Springs. This train will take individuals on a thrilling tram ride throughout the area. Each participant will see various things to do within the city as well as the history of the neighborhoods. One of the most interesting and commendable parts of the tram ride is seeing the leftover damage that Hurricane Katrina caused to the region in 2005.
